Chester Barnes

Chester Barnes (born January 27, 1947 in Greater London ) is an English table tennis player who was active in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1966 he became vice European champion in mixed.

Career

Barnes' original first name was George . His parents had him renamed Chester after the English comedian Charlie Chester . At the age of 16 he became the first English champion . Another 11 titles followed:

In 1966, 1971 and 1973 he took first place in the English rankings. In the ITTF world rankings he was ranked 16th in 1965.

From 1963 to 1969, Chester Barnes was nominated for participation in all four world championships . He never came close to medal ranks. In 1964 and 1966 he was represented at European Championships. He reached the final in mixed with Mary Shannon-Wright , which was lost to the Czech couple Vladimír Miko / Marta Lužová .
