Ian Harrison

Ian Harrison (born June 28, 1939 in Royal Tunbridge Wells ) is a former English table tennis player from the 1950s and 1960s. He took part in six world championships and six European championships.

Career

Ian Harrison, who was active in a Gloucester club , won a total of eight titles at the English National Championships :

In addition, she won first place at the 1960 English Open in singles and doubles with Diane Rowe. From 1958 to 1963 he took first place in the English rankings.

From 1957 to 1967 Ian Harrison took part in all six world championships . His greatest success here was fourth place at the 1961 World Cup with the English team. In this team competition, he defeated the Japanese Ichirō Ogimura , who up to this point was already twice world champion in singles and won this title again in 1961. In addition, Ian Harrison was nominated six times for European championships .

Overall, Ian Harrison came to 178 international appearances for England. At the end of 1968 he ended his international career.

Private

Ian Harrison married Elisabeth Purves in June 1962 and a son was born in 1967. He had three daughters with his future wife Jennifer, a teacher. One of them is Sarah Harrison , a journalist and employee of WikiLeaks .
