Karl-Heinz Thomas (politician)
Karl-Heinz Thomas (born December 18, 1929 - February 24, 2001 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).
Thomas, a trained welder, began his local political commitment in 1964 in the council of the then still independent municipality of Eichen .
After the municipal reorganization he became a member of the council of the city of Kreuztal . From 1975 to 1979 he was Deputy Mayor Hilmar Selle (also SPD). When he stepped down a few months after the local elections on September 30, 1979, Karl-Heinz Thomas was elected mayor on January 13, 1981. He held this office until 1994.
He was also a member of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district council for 24 years .
In 1989 Thomas received the Federal Cross of Merit . As the longest-serving mayor to date, he was awarded the honorary title "Honorary Mayor" on the occasion of a ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the city on May 27, 1994.
