Karl-Heinz Vogel

Karl-Heinz Vogel (born June 3, 1924 ) is a former German officer in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR . For many years, he was the first deputy head of Department VI (passport control and search).

Life

Vogel joined the SED and joined the MfS. At the beginning of 1964 he was employed as a major in the newly formed main department of passport control and manhunt, where he became chief of staff in 1969. In 1968 he completed a partial state examination in criminology at the JHS University of Law in Potsdam-Eiche . As the successor to Colonel Heinz Engelbrecht, he was promoted to 1st deputy head of HA VI in 1974 and was appointed major general by Erich Honecker , Chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR , in February 1984 on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the formation of the Ministry for State Security . On June 30, 1989, he was replaced by Colonel Rudi Ziegenhorn and discharged from service.
