Karl Martin Friedrich Grass (* 1. August 1937 in Harburg , Swabia ) is a German historian and CDU - politician .

Karl Martin Graß was born in 1937 as the son of the economist Friedrich Graß . After attending school in Harburg, Bad Bergzabern and Landau, he passed his Abitur in 1956. He then studied history as well as classical philology, philosophy and political science in Heidelberg and Munich, and most recently again in Heidelberg. There he received his doctorate in 1966 under Werner Conze with a thesis on Edgar Julius Jung , a friend of his father's, to become Dr. phil.

In 1965, Graß became a member of the working group for modern social history in Heidelberg, and in 1968 a research assistant at the University of Education in Kaiserslautern. In 1969 he moved to the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education, Landau department.

After completing his studies, Graß turned to politics: In the 1970s and 80s, Graß was political advisor to the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel : As a member of the Herford district, he helped design its socio-political line.

In 1976, Graß was a member of the German Bundestag for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) for 244 days .
