The Karl-Wrba-Hof is an urban residential complex in the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten . It is located between Sahulkastraße, Neilreichgasse and Sibeliusstraße, bordered to the east by Vivaldi and Kornauthgasse.

history

The municipal housing was built between 1972 and 1982 and has 1,048 apartments. Until 1972 there was an allotment garden on the area of today's community building. The town planner Rupert Falkner was the lead architect and took over the architecture management. A total of eight architects worked on the implementation of the project. The farm was named after Karl Wrba (1900–1973), the long-time district chairman of Favoriten.

Building description

The terraces typical of the construction

The Karl-Wrba-Hof consists of 35 staircases in different heights (up to eight floors). The average apartment size is around 83 m². 3,028 people (1,566 women and girls and 1,462 men and boys) live in this farm (as of December 31, 2006).

This community housing is characterized by a large number of low-rise buildings (especially in the courtyards), balconies, loggias and terraces. Another trademark are the yellowish-beige Eternit facades , which earned the building the nickname "mustard buildings". One courtyard passes into the other. Passages, alleys, stairs, ramps and arcades connect the individual parts of the complex.

Infrastructure

A medical center, a supermarket, a tobacco shop, a general store, two bars and a hairdressing salon are located to the north of the courtyard (Sahulka Street).

There is also an elementary school with a large, fenced playground and sports field, a day care center for the city of Vienna with a large garden and a day care center for children with its own green area. In the residential complex there are several (small) children's playgrounds and a spacious playground and sports field.

The municipal housing is well connected to the public transport network. Reumannplatz ( underground line U1 ) can be reached in a short time via tram line 11 and bus line 66A .
