Horst Jung

Horst Jung is a former German table tennis player . He took part in the 1955 World Cup.

Jung first played in the club VfL Poppelsdorf. In 1951 he was West German youth champion. He later moved to TTF Bonn and played in the Oberliga West, the top German division at the time. After an interlude at MTV Munich in 1956/57 , he returned to TTF Bonn. At the German championships in 1955 he came third in doubles with Helmuth Hoffmann . This year he was ranked 12th in the DTTB ranking.

In 1955 he was nominated for the individual competitions of the World Cup in Utrecht. Here he was eliminated in the first round against Curt Osterholm (Sweden). The doubles with Kurt Seifert went two rounds further by eliminating Harry Hirschkowitz / Robert Gusikoff (USA) and a doubles from Vietnam. The later winners of the bronze medal Ichiro Ogimura / Yoshio Tomita (Japan) were then too strong.
