from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Ammann (born 1948 in St. Gallen , Switzerland ) is a wildlife conservationist who lives in Kenya and is particularly well-known in the Anglo-American and African regions and has received numerous awards for wildlife photography .

Ammann began his career as an animal photographer in the early 1980s, v. a. with cheetah photographs. Later he focused his work on the observation, study and photography of great apes . He first witnessed the bushmeat and human ape trafficking in 1988 and has since worked to raise awareness of the trade and its effects. With his photographic skills, he took pictures of the victims (especially great apes) of the bush meat trade, which led to many shocking and repulsive images, which his opponents accused of deliberately exaggerating. The world first became aware of this problem with the publication of the book Eating Apes (in collaboration with American author Dale Peterson ).

Karl Ammann was included in Time Magazine's list of Heroes of the Environment in October 2007 .
