Karl Bender , also Carl Bender , (born April 29, 1864 in Wiesbaden , † October 10, 1910 in Coburg ) was a German actor .

Life

Bender was a student of the royal Prussian court actor Max Köchy and Franz Bethke . He made his debut at the Dortmund City Theater in 1883 as King Claudius in Hamlet . This was followed by engagements at the Lübeck City Theater , the Vienna Volkstheater , the Deutsches Theater Berlin , the Hoftheater Dessau and stages in Oldenburg , Bremen and New York . In the 1900/01 season Bender worked at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and had been a member of the Coburg-Gotha Court Theater Association since 1901 .

Bender also made a name for himself as a reciter , particularly in his adaptation of Count Arthur de Gobineau's Renaissance play .
