Karl Egloff (born March 16, 1981 in Quito, Ecuador) is an Ecuadorian-Swiss extreme mountaineer and mountain biker. He holds the speed records for three of the seven highest continental peaks ( Seven summits ).

Life

Egloff was born in Quito as the son of the Swiss mountain guide Karl Egloff and his Ecuadorian wife. At the age of 15 he started working as a mountain guide. He became internationally known when he broke two speed records set by the Spaniard Kilian Jornet within a short distance . In 2014, he conquered Kilimanjaro in 6 hours and 42 minutes, undercutting Jornet's record by 32 minutes. Half a year later he managed to climb the Aconcagua in a time of 11 hours and 52 minutes for ascent and descent, which he improved Jornet's record by one hour. In 2017, Egloff also achieved the fastest ascent of Elbrus, so that he holds the speed records for three of the Seven summits.

Karl Egloff is married and has one son.
