biography

Nicola Forster is the eldest of three sons of a primary school teacher and of the school psychologist Jürg Forster. His great-grandmother Irma Schaichet came from Hungary as a concert pianist, his great-grandfather Alexander Schaichet came to Zurich from Russia as a conductor and violinist , where he founded the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Nicola Forster studied law in Zurich, Lausanne and Montpellier.

Even before graduation, he led the youth campaign for the eastward expansion of the free movement of persons with the EU. After graduating Forster had an internship contract with a law firm for 8500 francs a month in your pocket, but decided to borrow money from his parents to the 2009 foreign policy think tank foraus to start. Today foraus has around 1000 voluntary employees, fifteen permanent employees, and a global turnover of 1.2 million francs. In addition to the two offices in Zurich and Geneva, there are spin-offs in seven countries. In 2017 he was one of the founders of the State Laboratory , which made new methods and techniques available to public administration.

Forster advises ministries, foundations and think tanks on public participation projects. He is the founding curator of the Global Shapers Bern of the World Economic Forum , has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Science et Cité since 2018 and sits on the board of the Global Diplomacy Lab and the Fondation Jean Monnet pour l'Europe . His main occupation are lectures - from TEDx to company events - as well as moderation at home and abroad

politics

After the SVP won its “Initiative against mass immigration” against bourgeois and left-wing parties, trade unions and business associations on February 9, 2014 , Forster was one of the co-founders of the liberal movement Operation Libero . On November 20, 2018, Forster was unanimously elected co-president of the Zurich GLP cantonal party together with Corina Gredig, Zurich municipal councilor. Forster and Gredig led the GLP to an election victory in the cantonal elections in March 2019 and declared that in the first half of 2019 the number of members had increased by a quarter to 1,100 people and the number of sympathizers to 2,400.

Politically, Forster no longer sees the contrasts between left and right, but between conservative and progressive , between representatives of an economic and social opening and representatives of a conservative attitude that opposes technological and international changes . This can be seen in the SP's fight against the framework agreement between Switzerland and the EU, for which Nicola Forster is promoting among opponents and allies. In 2019, Nicola Forster ran as a GLP candidate for the National Council with the support of Operation Libero .
