Karl Ernst Nipkow (born December 19, 1928 in Bielefeld ; † February 13, 2014 in Marburg ) was a German theologian , religious educator and educational scientist .

Life

Nipkow studied Protestant theology and pedagogy in Heidelberg and Marburg and was in 1959 at the University of Marburg with a thesis on individuality as a pedagogical problem with Pestalozzi, Humboldt and Schleiermacher Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a high school teacher. From 1961 to 1965 he was a lecturer at the University of Marburg. From 1965 to 1968 he taught as a professor for education at the PH Hannover. In 1968 he was appointed professor for practical theology at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen . In 1994 he retired, but continued to speak out on current issues in education and religious education through lectures and publications.

In addition to his professorship, Nipkow held several honorary positions: he was a long-time member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and chairman of the EKD Chamber for Education.

Nipkow has written several books and essays, some of them in several volumes, on religious education and on "Education in a Plural World" and "has significantly influenced religious education over the last few decades [in Germany]".

His students include a. the Tübingen religious educator Friedrich Schweitzer and the Koblenz professor and head of the Pedagogical-Theological Institute Bonn Ulrike Baumann .
