Karl Flieher

Karl Flieher (born July 9, 1881 in Vienna , † January 20, 1958 in Zell am See ) was an Austrian landscape and vedute painter .

Life

Teachers became aware of the young Karl Flieher's talent for drawing while he was still at school. Anton Brioschi , director of the court opera theater studio , was so enthusiastic about his talent that he brought him in as a student at the court opera . After his training he received commissions from opera houses in Austria and Germany. Flieher remained mainly active in Vienna and mainly painted views of the Austrian Alpine regions. From the early 1920s, often motifs from the Wachau . In 1919 Karl Flieher left Vienna and lived as a freelance artist. For years he traveled through Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. In 1928 he finally came to Zell am See. The small town between the Alps has now become his adopted home. On January 20, 1958, Karl Flieher died in Zell am See and was buried there at the "Bergfriedhof". His paintings, in oil , but mostly in gouaches and watercolors , were often based on photos and often reproduce older views of the place.
