Karl Freund (politician)

Karl Freund (born August 1, 1947 in Taufkirchen an der Pram ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and a former member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Karl Freund attended elementary and secondary school in his home town of Taufkirchen between 1953 and 1960. He worked in his parents' farm and completed specialist training in agriculture between 1965 and 1968. In 1970 Freund did his military service. In 1988 Freund attended a course at the Upper Austrian Farmers Academy.

Karl Freund has been an independent farmer in Lambrechte since 1971 and was appointed to the economic council in 2003.

Political career

Karl Freund began his political career in the municipality of Lambrechte. Between 1973 and 2000 he was a local councilor and between 1979 and 1991 also vice mayor and local farmer chairman. Freund was district party chairman of the ÖVP Ried im Innkreis from 1998 to 2010 and regional chairman of the Upper Austrian farmers' union from 1996 to 2008 .

Karl Freund was a member of the National Council from October 15, 1988 to October 27, 2008. He represented the ÖVP through a direct mandate from the regional constituency 4B ( Innviertel ). He was several times a member of the Committee for Internal Affairs and represented the ÖVP in the XXIII. Legislative period also in the committees agriculture and forestry, petitions and citizens' initiatives as well as national defense.
