Karl Friedrich von Strenge (born January 31, 1843 in Ohrdruf ; † June 16, 1907 in Gotha ) was a lawyer and minister of state in Gotha, Thuringia .

Life

Karl Friedrich was born in Ohrdruf as the son of the mayor Julius Strenge. After attending grammar schools in Ohrdruf and Gotha, he studied law and political science at the universities of Jena and Berlin from 1861 to 1864 . During his studies in 1861 he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar .

He became an accessist in 1864, trainee lawyer in 1866 , lawyer in 1868 and notary in Gotha in 1869 . Strenge was a city councilor from 1877 to 1890. From 1889 to 1891 Strenge was a member of the state parliament and member of the Saxony-Coburg-Gotha Ministry. On November 19, 1891, Duke Ernst II appointed Strenge as the conducting state minister and real secret council . He held this office until December 1, 1900. In 1894 he was raised to the nobility by Duke Alfred by awarding him the Grand Cross of the Ernestine House Order . Under this duke, von Strenge wanted to form an administrative union from the regions of Coburg and Gotha, which he intended to lead. The Coburgs were reluctant to do this, so that the plan was not fulfilled. However, von Strenge had success with the introduction and implementation of the new civil code in 1900. In 1905 the revision of the domain agreement of 1855 was completed.

Von Strenge was a well-respected and sought-after lawyer who had extensive knowledge and a clear legal understanding.

He became publicly known a. a. through his offices as chairman of the Gotha Protestant Association, as a member of the state parliament , as a city councilor and city councilor.

After resigning as a minister and leaving the civil service, he devoted himself primarily to research into Gotha canon law and the local past.

Honors

His hometown Ohrdruf named a street after him.
