Karl Gerhold (* 1908 in Vienna , † 1985 in Cologne ) was an Austrian football player .

Career

Karl Gerhold began his football career in the streets of Favoriten . Against his mother's wishes, he secretly went to Döbling to train with the Vienna . He won the ÖFB-Cup 1929 as a connector alongside wonder team player Fritz Gschweidl, marking the 2-0 in the final in a 3-2 win over Rapid with a header. He also had to make trips to the Mitropa Cup games in Prague and Budapest in 1929 without his mother's knowledge.

After the death of his mother, he went to Switzerland as a professional footballer, first in 1930 with his club colleague Leopold Giebisch to Bern for BSC Young Boys , then to Lausanne, where he sensationally won the championship title in 1932 with Lausanne-Sports as a second division team . Because he was particularly interested in the different languages, he moved from Lausanne to Locarno and later back to Bern, where he played for FC Bern . As a Greater German expelled from Switzerland, his path took him to Cologne in 1938, where he worked as a player for Mülheimer SV for 10 years and where he got his coaching license and coached several smaller clubs after the war. He always remained true to his sport, football and played in a hobby group until he was 75. He died in 1985 and is buried in Cologne-Wahn , his second home.
