Karl Glitscher

Karl Glitscher (born July 2, 1886 in Mühlheim , † 1945 ) was a German physicist and co-founder of quantum mechanics .

education

Glitscher studied with Arnold Sommerfeld at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . For his dissertation (1917) he used the fine structure of the spectral lines to compare Max Abraham's theory, according to which electrons are perfect rigid spheres with charges evenly distributed over the surface, with the special theory of relativity .

Career

Glitscher applied for a patent for an "artificial horizon indicator" for vehicles and similar platforms in Germany in 1930 and in the USA in 1931, which he ceded to the Gesellschaft für electrical Apparate mbH (Gelap) in Berlin-Marienfelde. Gelap was founded in 1920 as a subsidiary of Siemens & Halske (S & H) with the aim of optimizing the technical equipment of the military. Gelap merged in 1933 with the S&H aircraft engine factory to form Siemens Apparate und Maschinen GmbH , which produced communication and command systems for military organizations and commercial shipping companies.

death

Glitscher died in 1945 while defending Berlin against the Red Army , where he was used as a sniper.
