Karl Graf (born September 29, 1919 in Altenstadt ; † May 2, 1998 in Feldkirch ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and an official of the Austrian Federal Railways . From 1957 to 1974 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After finishing elementary school in Feldkirch, Graf attended secondary school in Feldkirch and then continued his education at the Federal Trade School for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Bregenz from 1933 . He passed his Matura there in 1938 and did military service between 1939 and 1945 during the Second World War. After his return from the war, he was accepted as an electrician in the service of the ÖBB-Werkstätte Feldkirch on June 4, 1945, where he was promoted to foreman in 1955 and then to chief foreman. Ultimately, he was employed as a technical administrative officer at ÖBB. Graf worked as president of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor between 1956 and 1967.

Politics and functions

Graf joined the SPÖ in 1945 and was active in local politics from 1955 to 1970 as a member of the Feldkirch city council. He also represented the SPÖ on the city council from 1965 to 1966. Within the party, he worked as deputy district chairman of the SPÖ Feldkirch, was chairman of the SPÖ city representative group Feldkirch from 1960 and also acted as a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg. He was sworn in on April 18, 1957 as the successor to Jakob Bertsch and was a member of the state parliament until November 3, 1974. Most recently, he was club chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club from January 1972 to October 1974.

In addition to his political mandates, Graf was mainly engaged as a trade unionist and active in the Chamber of Labor . From 1946 he held the function of chairman of the union of the local railway group Feldkirch and from 1949 to 1955 he was a member of the personnel committee of the ÖBB directorate in Innsbruck. From 1949 to 1967 he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Vorarlberg, chairman of the committee for transport and spatial planning and from 1949 to 1954 a member of the social policy committee of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor. From 1949 he acted as the deputy chairman of the transport staff section of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor, and from 1952 to 1965 he was regional representative of the railway union. He was also chairman of the ÖGB of the Vorarlberg state executive, from 1953 to 1954 a board member of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor and from 1954 to 1956 Vice-President of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor. As a result, he was president of the Chamber of Labor between January 23, 1956 and April 7, 1967.

Graf was also vice-president of ASKÖ Vorarlberg and chairman of ATSV Feldkirch.

Private

Graf was the son of the ÖBB works guide Peter Graf (1883–1933) and his wife Maria Graf (* 1883) from Rudlach , née Muckenhummer. He married Wanda Möller on May 25, 1945 and was the father of a daughter (* 1946) and two sons (* 1953 and 1963)
