Karl Groß (born May 8, 1843 in Homberg; † March 20, 1909 ) was a lawyer and the first mayor of Pforzheim , under the city rules .

Life

Groß studied law, then came to the Prussian railway administration as a legal assistant and then entered the municipal service. When the newly elected citizens' committee in Pforzheim decided, after the town regulations were introduced in Baden, in 1875 to transfer the office of senior citizenship to a legally trained specialist, the 32-year-old councilor of Bramen, Karl Groß, filled the position.

At the beginning of November 1875, Groß arrived in Pforzheim and took over the business from November 4th. Because he wanted to extend the contract with the gasworks and not take it over by the city , there were clear differences of opinion and arguments with the citizens . This foiled his re-election as mayor after his term of office , although one of more than 2,000 citizens to the City Council directed the petition was in favor of his re-election.

Groß then turned back to work as a lawyer. In 1887 he was elected to the citizens' committee. Groß was also involved in non-profit organizations .

Karl Groß died of complications from a cold.
