Karl Holmeier (born September 10, 1956 in Weiding ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since September 27, 2009 . From 1990 to 2014 he was the first mayor of the Upper Palatinate community of Weiding (district of Cham), and since May 2014 he has been the former mayor of his home community. From May to October 2008 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament.

Career

After attending the elementary school Weiding (1962–1968), the secondary school Furth im Wald (1968–1972) and the technical high school Cham (1972–1974), Holmeier trained as a banker.

His political career began in 1974 when he joined the Junge Union , and in 1979 he joined the CSU. He took on his first political mandate after the local elections in 1984 in the district council of the district of Cham .

In 1989 he took over the chairmanship of the CSU local association in his hometown of Weiding. In 1990 he was elected 1st Mayor of Weiding. He did not run for the local elections in March 2014, so his term of office as mayor ended on April 30, 2014. In May 2014, he was awarded the title of former mayor by the newly elected local council . In 1993 he was elected deputy CSU district chairman, and since 1998 he has been chairman of the CSU district parliamentary group.

On May 1, 2008, Holmeier replaced the outgoing Herbert Rubenbauer on the list of the constituency of Upper Palatinate in the Bavarian state parliament. There he was a member of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs and the Committee for Agriculture and Forestry. In the state elections on September 28, 2008 , he was unable to return to the state parliament as a list candidate for the Upper Palatinate district due to the heavy loss of votes by the CSU.

On January 10, 2009, he made himself available as a candidate for the Bundestag. On January 24, 2009, the district delegate and district representative assembly of the Cham district elected Karl Holmeier as a candidate for the federal election. The delegates of the federal constituency conference nominated Holmeier as a candidate for the federal election on February 14th.

Since then, Karl Holmeier has always won the direct mandate in the Schwandorf constituency , most recently in the 2017 federal election with 48.5%. He is a member of the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure . He is also a member of the Subcommittee on Local Affairs and the Subcommittee on Regional Economic Policy and ERP Economic Plans.

He is Catholic , married and has three grown children.

In the 19th German Bundestag , Holmeier is a full member of the subcommittee on regional economic policy and ERP economic plans, as well as the committee on transport and digital infrastructure . He is also a deputy member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy .
