Karl Holstein (industrialist)

Karl Holstein (born March 8, 1908 in Koblenz , † January 12, 1983 in Gelsenkirchen ) was a German industrialist .

Life path

After attending grammar school in Offenbach , he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg (member of the Corps Rhenania ) and Frankfurt am Main, passed the trainee exam in 1930 and the assessor exam in 1934. He was initially a judge at the Frankfurt District Court and worked there as a lawyer from 1934 to 1936. In 1936 he became an authorized officer and legal advisor at the Verein Deutscher Tafelglashütten GmbH in Frankfurt. During the Second World War (1940-1944) he was a military advisor to the military commander in Belgium-Northern France in Brussels .

In 1950, Karl Holstein joined the DELOG Deutsche Libbey-Owens-Gesellschaft für mechanical glass production (later Flachglas AG), Gelsenkirchen, as chairman of the board , of which he was a member until 1968. During this time he had close ties to Belgium and in 1954 was appointed Royal Belgian Honorary Consul for the Münster administrative region . From 1967 to 1969 he was President and from 1969 to 1983 Vice President of the German-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce .

In addition, he was chairman of the supervisory board of Unionglas AG (Fürth), deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Erste Österreichische Maschinenglasindustrie AG (EOMAG) in Brunn, deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Moosbrunner Glasfabrik AG in Moosbrunn (Austria), member of the supervisory board of Mitterberger Glashütten GmbH in Mitterberg (Austria), member of the supervisory board of Dahlbusch Bergbau AG (Gelsenkirchen), and member of the supervisory board of Gelsenwasser AG (Gelsenkirchen). He was a member of the advisory boards of Deutsche Bank and Westdeutsche Landesbank , 1970 to 1976 President of the Münster Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 1975 to 1976 member of the board of the Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce of North Rhine-Westphalia and 1973 to 1976 member of the board of German Industry - and trading days, Bonn. Holstein was the founder of the Karl Holstein Prize for the best apprentices of the year.

Awards

Holstein was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit (1968), the Belgian Order of Commandeur de l'Ordre de Léopold II. (1969), the Belgian medal Civique premiere class and the IHK plaque “For merits in business”.
