Life

Little is known about Karl Klimberger's childhood and youth. He was a trained furniture maker and joined the Sudeten German Party (SdP) as a young man .

As a social democrat , he chaired the Association of Social Democratic Traders; he also sat on various other committees. As a member of the board of directors of Wiener Messe AG, he was also largely responsible for setting up Messe Wien . On May 18, 1927, Klimberger became a member of the National Council and exercised his mandate until April 28, 1932 ( third and fourth legislative periods ). Then he withdrew into private life.

Klimberger was classified as a Jew by the National Socialists . Disguised as an Aryan , he tried to survive with the help of the social democratic couple Emil and Karoline Lhotak; last in a hiding place. On June 25, 1943, the hiding place was discovered by the Gestapo and Klimberger was arrested. On October 12, 1943, he was deported from Vienna to Auschwitz . Whether he ever got there and what happened to him is still not certain.

Karl Klimberger was pronounced dead at the end of June 1962 - his death date was dated October 12, 1943. According to Austrian law, the place where the death of a missing person is officially recognized is also the place of death, which is why Klimberger's place of death is often incorrectly stated as Vienna.
