Karl Leban (born November 27, 1908 , † July 28, 1941 in Vinnytsia , Soviet Union , today Ukraine ) was an Austrian speed skater , modern pentathlete and athlete .

Athletic career

Karl Leban took part in both the Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Summer Olympics in Berlin in 1936 . In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he started in the speed skating competitions over 500 and 1500 meters. He finished sixth over 500 meters and twelfth over 1500 meters. At the Summer Games he took part in Modern Pentathlon , where he finished 26th.

Leban was also active as a track and field athlete and won several national championship titles in Austria.

He was killed in a plane crash on the Soviet front in Vinnytsia during World War II .
