Karl Liebhardt
Karl Liebhardt (born September 22, 1846 in Stuttgart , † September 11, 1916 ) was a royal Württemberg court photographer and postcard publisher.
Life
Karl Liebhardt founded a photo studio in Stuttgart in 1873 and moved it to Esslingen am Neckar in 1880 . In 1893 he went on a five-month trip to the USA to document the world exhibition in Chicago . From this trip he brought back over 400 recordings, which were exhibited in Esslingen and Stuttgart the following year. In 1894 he was appointed court photographer to the royal Württemberg by King Wilhelm II . Nevertheless Liebhardt soon became the company catalogs, posters etc. for the industry here and that's why he said his business two years later a Department of light pressurein order to be able to produce the reproductions that his orders required. In 1897 he gave up his studio and devoted himself entirely to printmaking.
After the production of picture postcards for international traffic for private publishers was approved in Germany from 1885 , Liebhardt's business experienced a heyday. He also founded a postcard publisher and sold a wide variety of postcards. His motifs were mostly localities - often the lively street scenes popular with collectors today -, inns and commercial buildings, but of course also congratulatory and field postcards .

From July 10 to September 7, 2005, the exhibition "Greetings from Esslingen" was held in the city museum in Esslingen . Karl Liebhardt and his postcards are shown.
