Karl Lokotsch

Karl Josef Lokotsch (born February 3, 1889 in Cologne-Deutz ) was a German teacher and philologist .

Life

After attending Cologne's municipal high school in Kreuzgasse (Abitur in 1908), Lokotsch studied mathematics and physics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and received his doctorate there in 1912 under Friedrich Prym with a thesis on Avicenna's Euclid translation to become Dr. phil. After passing Lehramtsprüfung he entered in 1914 into the Prussian school system and taught now also at the University of Cologne and at the Graduate School of Cologne , where he 1928 teacher was promoted. His philological hobby were loanwords of exotic, that is, oriental or Indian origin in German and other European languages.
