Karl Ludloff (geologist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Ludloff (* around 1843 ; † after 1917 ) was a German-American geologist and mining engineer .

Life

In 1878 Ludloff published a geographical-geological treatise, which was later taken up by various sources in terms of content and subject matter.

He notes critically that rivers are made navigable without considering the origin of the water in the mountains. To this end, he mentions targeted reforestation and conservation of the forest to prevent “forest devastation”.

Karl Ludloff emigrated to America around 1880 . A travelogue was published in 1881 about his travel activities in the USA. It describes the agricultural conditions of the state of Wisconsin.

Building on the first publication in 1878, he wrote another book in 1882, entitled The Cause of Prosperity and Poverty of Peoples . A review can be found under Der Deutsche Pionier : A Monthly Magazine for Memories from German Pioneer Life in the United States .

These works are cited many times.

From 1880 on, Ludloff published the twice-monthly magazine Der Ansiedler in Wisconsin with Joseph Brucker .

In Taylor County , the building built by Ludloff and Brucker is shown, which later became the First National Bank of Medford .

He later lived in Mexico as an American emigrant .

Consultations

In 1887 Ludloff was visited by Max Sering . Both went on excursions to remote settlements lasting several days.

In 1890 Ludloff was visited by Heinrich Mayr .

In 1898 Ludloff submitted his studies to the Imperial Chancellery.

Participations and orders

In 1883 Ludloff was commissioned by Edward M. Coombs to work on his land including suspected iron deposits and to recruit settlers.

Around 1885 he appeared in Medford as Brucker, Ludloff Co. to recruit German-speaking settlers.

Around 1887, he was involved in the Butternut Exploring Company, which had the task of discovering raw material deposits.

Geological surveys

In addition to the above-mentioned activities, he investigated other areas of land in the USA and gave assessments of the raw material deposits, some of which were critically questioned.

In 1899 it was reported that Ludloff found gold bearing material on the upper Fraser River .

In 1900 he examined a geological formation for iron ore deposits on behalf of the Wisconsin Central Railway.

Approx. In 1904 Ludloff discovered an Aztec onyx vein in Mexico .
