biography

By trade, Maendler completed his training as a piano maker in 1897 and married the daughter of the Munich piano manufacturer MJ Schramm. In 1907 he built his first harpsichord for the pianist Elfriede Schunck, and from 1912 he was involved in the development of a Bach piano (1923), which had a number of patented devices for sound modulation. Maendler invented a song harp in 1924 and built trough xylophones for Carl Orff in 1925 . Until the Maendler-Schramm company closed due to the war in 1944, harpsichords, spinets , clavichords and pianos were made. In 1951 Maendler returned to Munich and began to rebuild the company, but in 1956, after losing his sight, he had to give up management.
