Karl Maitz

Karl Maitz (born December 3, 1939 in Hart bei Graz ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Maitz was a member of the Styrian Landtag from 1974 to 1994 and a member of the Austrian National Council from 1994 to 1999 .

education and profession

Maitz, who comes from the family of a notary, attended elementary school from 1946 to 1950 and then a general secondary school. He switched to the commercial academy in 1954 and passed his Matura in 1959. He completed his studies in law and political science in 1964 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. from. 1967 Maitz did the military service.

Maitz completed his court year and acquired practice as an auditor's assistant. He worked as an administrative lawyer at the Office of the Styrian Provincial Government and between 1968 and 1972 worked as legal advisor and managing director of the Styrian Farmers' Union. From 1972 to 1973 he was the managing director of "Modell Steiermark" and from 1973 to 1981 he was state party secretary of the ÖVP-Styria . Between 1982 and 1987 he was the managing director of the Austrian publishing house in Graz and from 1988 worked as managing director of Betriebs-Service Ges.mbH in Graz.

Maitz was a member of the Styrian Landtag from 1974 to 1994 and from 1993 onwards he was the club chairman of the ÖVP Styria. From November 7, 1994 to October 28, 1999 he was a member of the National Council. Maitz was defense spokesman for the ÖVP parliamentary club.

With Maitz as party secretary, the ÖVP bought the neighboring houses in Graz, Karmeliterplatz 5 and 6 as the state party headquarters after the 1974 election.

Maitz initiated and co-founded an association to erect a memorial for Alfons Gorbach , which was erected from donations as a portrait sculpture between 3 steles (plus plaque) in bronze around 1978 on Karmeliterplatz on a green area in front of house no.5. In the course of the redesign of the square - paving, water basin - around 1992/1994, the memorial was removed, was considered lost, was found in a depot of the city of Graz, taken over by the city council by resolution, restored and rebuilt on Gorbachplatz in 2009. The association had achieved its purpose and was dissolved.
