Karl Maurer (ski racer)

Karl Maurer (* 1925 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ; † February 21, 2014 in Rottach-Egern ) was a German ski racer .

He had his greatest successes in the early 1950s when he was twice German champion in downhill skiing ( 1950 and 1951 ). He won the German championship in combination in 1950.

On his local mountain, the Wallberg , he celebrated his most spectacular successes, including a. also the ´Golden Shield` (1951). In 1953 , of all places, he had a hard crash on his favorite route, and both legs had to be amputated. Despite the handicap, Karl Maurer was 89 years old; he died in 2014.
