Karl Mengele

Karl Mengele (born March 20, 1884 in Höchstädt an der Donau , † November 17, 1959 in Günzburg ) was a German entrepreneur . He is the father of the SS doctor Josef Mengele .

Life

Mengele studied at the Technikum Mittweida and then worked in various plants in Munich and Augsburg . In 1907 he bought a foundry and workshop for agricultural machines in Günzburg.

In the 1920s his company was the third largest manufacturer of threshing machines in Germany; since 1949 it has been called Karl Mengele & Sons . From 1933 to 1945 Mengele was a member of the Günzburg City Council (NSDAP). In 1950 sales were over 5 million Deutschmarks . The workforce had grown to almost 2,000.

The sons Josef , Karl Thaddeus and Alois Mengele emerged from the marriage with Walburga Theresa Mengele, née Hupfauer . Alois and Karl Mengele jun. participated in the company from 1949. After Mengele's death, the youngest son Alois ran the company.

Honors

Mengele was an honorary citizen in Günzburg and in Höchstadt an der Aisch.
