Karl Friedrich Philberth (born November 5, 1929 in Neustadt bei Coburg ) is a German theologian , physicist and non-fiction author.

Live and act

Philberth was born as the son of Josef Philberth and his wife Klara (née Wolf). He studied at the University of Munich, where he graduated as a geographer in 1956. In 1961 he received his doctorate from the University of Paris. He was the younger brother of Bernhard Philberth , with whom he also worked closely scientifically and with whom he wrote the book Das All - Physik des Kosmos , among others .

In his books he deals with the relationship between physics and the Christian faith. He received numerous patents, including for a special design of a transformer (1982, together with Bernhard Philberth), and he developed a probe for exploring ice sheets , which he himself called the Philbert probe (Philberth probe) . The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) identified this drill as a significant development in the study of thermal energy balances in polar ice sheets. Two Philbert probe holes, reaching 60 m and 259 m depth, were completed by CRREL at Camp Century in Greenland in 1965 and 1966. During the second International Glaciological Greenland Expedition (EGIG) (1967/68), boreholes with Philberth probes at the Jarl-Joset station reached depths of 230 m and 1000 m and led to new technical and scientific knowledge.

On July 3, 1972, he and his brother Bernhard were ordained a Catholic priest by Bishop Rudolf Graber in Regensburg .

1976 to 1978 publications on the storage of radioactive waste in geological ice layers, after many years of work on the heat balance in ice layers and even earlier work by his brother on radioactive waste in ice from 1958

1986 Establishment of the PH Foundation together with his brother Bernhard to support fellow students in the Philippines

In 1990 he was visiting professor for contemporary philosophical questions at the Philosophical-Theological University of Heiligenkreuz in Austria.
