life and work

Philberth was born as the son of Josef Philberth and his wife Klara (née Wolf). He was the older brother of Karl Philberth . Bernhard studied physics at the University of Munich and graduated there in 1950. In the early 1960s he was one of the leading young men in international atomic research and published studies on the disposal of radioactive waste substances.

Together with his brother he belonged to numerous scientific societies, including the Academy of Sciences of Besançon, the International Glaciological Society, London, and the Physical Society of Japan.

On July 3, 1972, he and his brother Karl were ordained a Catholic priest by Bishop Rudolf Graber in Regensburg .

The Philberth brothers were among the initiators of the first environmental laws in Germany, especially with regard to tax legislation and the gasoline lead law .

In his books he tried to find a harmony between modern physics and the Christian conceptions of creation and the world. He also discussed current problems such as the arms race with nuclear weapons . His theoretical considerations were formulated mathematically by his brother Karl, for example the book Das All was published in collaboration.
