Karl Siegrist (revolutionary)

Karl Siegrist , also Karl Siegerist , (* 1813 in Braunschweig , † June 11, 1891 in Berlin ) was a German revolutionary .

Under the leadership of the journeyman locksmith from Braunschweig, a barricade was repeatedly defended against attacks by the military on March 18, 1848 as part of the March Revolution in Berlin-Mitte . The location of the barricade was Breitestrasse at the intersection with Gertraudenstrasse . There an inscription inaugurated on March 14, 1998 reminds of the events. After the barricade was abandoned, ten of the fighters were executed. Siegrist was subsequently also held responsible for the Berlin armory storm of June 14, 1848 and sentenced to seven years in the first instance on July 15, and to one year in the second instance on October 7, which he served in the Graudenz fortress. In 1864 and 1865 he was expelled from Berlin; after all, he was close to the Social Democrats.
