Karl Waegner

Karl Adolf Albert Waegner (born December 12, jul. / 24. December  1864 greg. In Kamenetz-Podolsk , † 8. December 1939 in Bern ) was a German-Russian orthopedic surgeon and orthopedic surgeon .

Life

Waegner attended high school in Yekaterinoslaw (today Dnipro ) from 1883 to 1885 and from 1885 studied mathematics in Saint Petersburg before he switched to medical school at Dorpat University in 1887 , where he was a member of the Corps Neobaltia. In 1892 he became an assistant at the women's clinic in Dorpat , in 1894 at the Jusowka factory hospital ( Yekaterinoslaw governorate ), and in 1896 head physician at the Petrowsky factory hospital in Jenakiewo. He stayed several times for study purposes in Germany, including in Breslau, Berlin and Cologne. In 1906 Waegner became head of the central hospital he founded for workers injured by accidents in the southern Russian coal and iron industrial district in Kharkov . From 1914 to 1918 he was head of the military hospital there.

Waegner began his university career in 1917 as a private lecturer in accident medicine. From 1917 to 1919 he was deputy professor for operative surgery and topographical anatomy, from 1919 to 1926 full professor of orthopedics and accident medicine at the University of Kharkov , and from 1919 to 1926 medical officer of the German Mission. In 1926 he became director of the orthopedic clinic and professor of orthopedics and accident medicine at the state advanced training academy for doctors and a member of the scholars' committee of the Academy of Sciences in Moscow. In 1927 he moved to Dresden. In 1928 he became a research assistant with Professor Steinmann at the Chair of Accident Medicine in Bern . Waegner was a regular speaker at international congresses for accident medicine, u. a. in Rome, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Geneva, Berlin and the Russian surgeon congresses in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
