Karl Ziebarth

Karl (Carl) Ziebarth (born June 9, 1836 in Heiligenstadt , † October 17, 1899 in Göttingen ) was a German law scholar and university professor.

Life

Karl Ziebarth began studying law in Göttingen in the winter semester of 1850/51; here he joined the fraternity of Hannovera . He continued his studies at Heidelberg University and Berlin University. After passing the legal traineeship and assessor examination, he was initially an unpaid assessor at the public prosecutor's offices in Berlin, Erfurt and Spremberg (Lausitz) before he was appointed public prosecutor's assistant at the public prosecutor's office at the Frankfurt / Oder Higher Appeal Court in 1865. In 1866 the University of Halle awarded him the title of Dr. jur.

In 1869 he was transferred to the Göttingen Higher Court with appointment to the court council. Here he completed his habilitation and immediately became a private lecturer. In 1872 he was appointed full professor of procedural and criminal law. He turned down a number of appointments to other universities as well as a transfer to the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Prussia. However, he agreed to give lectures on legal studies from 1882 to 1892 as a lecturer at what was then the Royal Prussian Forest Academy in Hannoversch Münden . From this activity his book "Das Forstrecht" emerged, which was to remain the outstanding standard work in this area of ​​law for decades.
