The Karl and Magdalene Haberstock Foundation , often referred to as the Haberstock Collection , is an art collection in the Schaezlerpalais in Augsburg's old town , which exhibits works from the former private collection of the Munich art dealer Karl Haberstock .

history

After Karl Haberstock's death in 1956, his widow Magdalene integrated his art collection - as requested by him in his will - into the "Karl and Magdalene Haberstock Foundation for the Promotion of Science, Education and Public Education", which has been under administration since September 28, 1957 City of Augsburg stands.

The Haberstock collection, along with other municipal collections, was housed in the Schaezlerpalais, which was closed for a general renovation for a long time at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. Since February 2006, the works of the Karl and Magdalene Haberstock Foundation can be viewed again.

Sponsorship

The works in the Haberstock collection are formally the property of the “Karl and Magdalene Haberstock Foundation for the Promotion of Science, Education and National Education”, which is therefore also responsible for the care and maintenance of the works. However, this has been under the administration of the city of Augsburg since the 1950s, which de facto took over the sponsorship of the Haberstock collection.

exhibition

The Karl Haberstock collection is exhibited in the context of the German Baroque Gallery on the second floor of the Schaezlerpalais and includes works by important baroque painters. Paintings by Nicolaes Berchem , Canaletto , Anthonis van Dyck , Jacob Jordaens , Lucas Cranach the Elder , Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Paolo Veronese can be seen.

location

After the renovation and reconstruction of the Schaezlerpalais, the Karl and Magdalene Haberstock Foundation was housed on the second floor of the building, which it shares with the graphic collection of the city of Augsburg . Access to the exhibition is via the shared entrance of the municipal art collections on the ground floor of the Schaezlerpalais in Maximilianstrasse in the heart of Augsburg's old town.

Due to its central location, the Haberstock collection is difficult to reach by car due to the lack of parking, but the museum is well connected via several tram and city bus routes of the local public transport.
