Charles of Aquitaine

Charles of Aquitaine (* well 825 / 830 ; † 4 June 863 ) was archbishop of Mainz 856-863.

He was the second son of King Pippin I of Aquitaine and his wife Ringart. It fell into the hands of Charles the Bald in 849 and spent the years from 851 to 854 in the monastery , from which he was finally able to escape. On March 6, 856 he was appointed Archbishop of Mainz by Ludwig the German . In 857 Karl held a synod in St. Alban's Abbey near Mainz , where he was later buried.
