The Altes Zeughaus Carnival Museum is located in the Gladbach district of Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Weiherstraße 2.
The building was built in the 18th century. It was entered under No. W 013 on October 14, 1986 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .
location
Weiherstraße is one of the oldest routes in the city. It runs below the Abteiberges as a connection to Lüpertzender Straße and dates from the 18th century. The building stands at the beginning of the street directly west of the town hall .
architecture
The brick house No. 2 is a simple rectangular building in two to three axes . The house is built into the slope. The cellar preserves an old barrel building. "Altes Zeughaus" written on the house. The house ends with half a hipped roof . The house is worth protecting as a monument for architectural and urban historical reasons. The house is considered to be the narrowest house in town. It is only 4.25 m wide.
function
The building, which was bought and renovated in 1977 by the Kleiner Rat - Altes Zeughaus association, is home to the Gladbach carnivalists and holds their mementos, for example over 3,000 carnival medals. In 1997, the association bought the dilapidated neighboring house and rebuilt it to expand the exhibition and event rooms. The so expanded Carnival Museum was inaugurated in 2002. But it also collects and shows things that document the history of the city.
