Karol Duchoň (born April 21, 1950 in Galanta , western Slovakia , † November 5, 1985 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak singer .

biography

Duchoň's mother came from Báčsky Petrovec , his father was the director of an engineering school for machine and tool construction in Galanta. Later Duchoň studied at a technical college, which he did not graduate. During his parents' stay in Yugoslavia , he toured abroad with the Jaroslav Mikula Orchestra.

In 1968 he performed with the big beat band "The Ice Boys". He appeared on television on a small hit parade with the cover song "Sugar Sugar" called "Uber pary". This song quickly became famous. He sang several duets with famous singers from Czechoslovakia .

In the 1970s he began to work with the singer Eva Máziková . In June 1970 he took part in the “Bratislava Lyra” competition for the first time with a song. In 1975 he performed at the festival in Tokyo .

In 1976 he recorded the album “Portrait of a Voice” on the RCA label in the Federal Republic of Germany. The album was produced by the German composer Rolf Soja , who also wrote most of the pieces on the album. There were two single releases, "Edeltraut" and "Let's dance for a night". German critics reacted positively to his voice and called him the "Slovak Tom Jones". There was a television appearance in the “Current Showroom” of the NDR and on television in the GDR . Nevertheless, the success in Germany was largely lacking for him, so that there were no further German productions.

In 1977 he started singing with Ľubo Belák's group. He has performed in Germany , Switzerland , the Soviet Union , Poland , Hungary , Bulgaria , Cuba , Somalia and France, among others .

In the 1980s he began to work with the orchestra of Vlado Valovič and later in 1982 with the group "Za-ja-ce" and the orchestra Pavel Zajáček.

Private life

In 1973 he married Elena Šuráková. From this marriage his daughter Danka was born. The marriage later ended in divorce. In 1985 he married the editor Alena Čermáková a second time, and only a few months later on November 5, 1985, he died at the age of 35 from complications of liver cirrhosis .

Even today he is one of the greatest singers in Slovakia in his homeland. In Czechoslovakia he was as well known as Karel Gott .
