Karol Tadeusz Nawrocki (born March 3, 1983 ) is a Polish historian, former athlete and since April 2017 acting director of the United Museums of World War II ( Muzeum II Wojny Światowej ) and Westerplatte Museum in Gdansk .

Life

In his youth Nawrocki played for the soccer team KKS Gedania (1997-2000) and boxed in the team of the RKS Stoczniowiec (2000-2004). For the latter, he reached first place in the Polish junior heavyweight competition in 2001 . He then became a player and captain of the ex-Siedlce Gdańsk football team, for which he scored 25 goals in 96 games and whose martial arts department he founded in 2010.

Nawrocki graduated from Gdansk University with a degree in history . His master's thesis dealt with political propaganda in sports journalism by “Dziennik Bałtycki” in the 1970s. 2013 he was with a thesis on the public opposition to communist rule in the province Elblag doctorate .

The historian has worked in Gdańsk for the Institute for National Remembrance ( Instytut Pamięci Narodowej , IPN) since 2009 and became head of the Regional Office for Public Education ( Biuro Edukacji Publicznej ) in 2014 . He was particularly interested in communist crimes from 1945–1956. In addition to books, he published at histmag.org and in the papers “Magazyn Solidarność”, “ Polityka ” and “ Do Rzeczy ”. He was a historical advisor for the TV program "W świetle prawdy" from TVP Gdańsk .

From 2011 to 2017 he was chairman of the district council of Siedlce . In 2015 in Gdansk he campaigned for a street to be named after Jerzy Popiełuszko and for a memorial for the Inca (Danuta Siedzikówna).
