Karol Ruprecht

Karol Ruprecht (* 1821 ; † 1875 ) was a Polish patriot and social worker, one of the founders of the “White” party. His family came from Silesia and he was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church .

He worked in the part of Poland administered by Russia . In 1849 he was arrested and deported to Siberia . He managed to return home from exile. After his return he worked in the editorial department of “Gazeta Warszawska”.

1858–1861 he was a member of the liberal “White” party. He was an advocate of organic labor and the pursuit of national freedoms using political methods. He saw the uprisings only as the ultimate road to freedom. In 1862 he wrote a brochure: Kwestia socjalna wobec narodowej sprawy (Social question in the face of the national cause), which was recognized as the party's program. During the January uprising of 1863/1864 he became a member of the national government and headed the finance committee. After the radical "Red" party came to power in the uprising, he emigrated to France .
