Others

  • On both sides of the church are the ruins of the former priory and farm buildings.
  • A 5-arch medieval bridge crosses the Thouet river; with driveways it is approx. 126 meters long (without driveways only 63.70 meters). The three larger inner arches are designed as round arches, while the two outer arches are pointed arches. The bridge piers, made of hard stone, are sharpened to better repel tree trunks and rubble. The street leading over the bridge still has its medieval paving and several curbstones on the side parapet walls. On the approximately 3 meter wide bridge there are two alternative options for pedestrians, which were certainly sometimes necessary with such a length. Bridge and road were built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Century - as it is said - built by the monks of the monastery of Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes; however, they probably had the help of expert builders and stonemasons. The bridge has been recognized as a monument historique since 1926 .
