The municipality is located on the Thouet River, immediately northeast of Parthenay . Châtillon-sur-Thouet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Viennay in the north, La Peyratte in the east, Parthenay in the south and south-east, Le Tallud in the south-west, Saint-Aubin-le-Cloud in the west and south-west and Adilly and Amailloux in the north-west.
