economy
The town of Saint-Marc-la-Lande has long served the St. Anthony Hospital and the only agriculturally oriented hamlets ( hamlets ) and individual farms in the area as a small craft, trade and service center.
history
The proven history of the place begins with the arrival of monks of the Antonite order around the year 1260, who devoted themselves to the poor and sick (see also Antoniusfeuer ) and built a (pilgrim) hospital here on a branch of the Way of St. James . The late Gothic collegiate church was built around 1500 and the new multi-storey building of the Commanderie was built in the 17th century.
Attractions
- The main attraction of the place is the collegiate church consecrated to the Evangelist Mark ; it comes from around 1500 and is characterized by the late Gothic style. The facade is stabilized laterally by two richly structured buttresses with empty figure niches, the left one being significantly larger and also serving as a staircase . The center is defined by a large blind arch in which the two-part portal zone and the windows above and below are located. The archivolts , deprived of their figurative ornamentation, end on the outside in an embroidery-like lambrequin arch . In the spandrels above the arch there are two coats of arms; A walkway runs in front of the gable field with a small triskeled window . Church construction has been classified as a monument historique since 1889 .
- Immediately next to the church is the three-storey and - with the exception of the portal - completely unadorned former hospital and administrative building ( Commanderie ) of the Antoniter Order, which was classified as a Monument historique in 1929 . Today it serves as a cultural and meeting center.
- Behind the hospital there is an orchard with over 100 apple and pear varieties and a separate area with medicinal plants .
