Hambach community forest
The former community forest of Hambach is located south of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse on the eastern edge of the Haardtgebirge , which in turn is part of the central Palatinate Forest .
history
Hambach owned together with Lachen-Speyerdorf approx. 5 km to the east, an extensive forest area, the Erste Haardtgeraide , which extends from the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest over a width of approx. 3.5 km from north to south and approx. 10 km from east to the west to the valley of the Speyerbach between Iptestal and Breitenstein with a total size of approx. 1750 ha. The first Haingeraide was in turn part of the forest area of the Haingeraide , which was located from La Wantzenau (near Strasbourg ) to Bad Dürkheim .
The coexistence of the two communities in their common forest was not peaceful: there were often disputes. During the seven-year border inspections in 1748 near the Breiten Loog - a mighty rock slab between Kaisergarten and Überzwerchberg, which, as a three -marketer, separated Neustadter, Deidesheim and Hambach-Lachener Wald for centuries - riots between Hambach and Lachen citizens, who a citizen had to pay with his life out of laughter. A total of around 40 people were injured on both sides.
After the Palatinate became Bavarian in 1816, an agreement on the division of the forest was reached on November 2, 1820 by a royal Bavarian government commissioner after long negotiations. Hambach was to receive the Vorderwald (approx. 1120 ha), Lachen-Speyerdorf the Hinterwald (approx. 624 ha) with the Spangenberg ruins . In 1825, the recurring quarrels were eliminated by setting 35 boundary stones.
The demarcation from the neighboring communities was made by creating boundary stones or by labeling the Loogfelsen lying on the border .
The demarcation of the forest to Diedesfeld was made in 1752 and 1823, the demarcation to Lachen-Speyerdorf was carried out in 1825. There are no years on the boundary stones about the time of the delimitation to Neustadt.
The boundary and Loog stones around the Hambacher Wald are almost completely preserved, only in a few places the stones were knocked over or driven over as a result of inattentiveness when logging. Furthermore, on the border between the Neustadter and Hambacher Wald, from the Kaltenbrunner Hütte along the Römerweg to the mausoleum, with the exception of stone no. 41, there are no more boundary stones.
The border between Hambach and Diedesfeld up to the Hohen-Loog level was also the border of the former Haagwald , which belonged to Hambach Castle until the 18th century . The Diedesfeld village coat of arms (horseshoe) and the letters DF for Diedesfeld, in some cases also the symbol of the Fifth Haingeraide , and consecutive numbers for Diedesfeld as well as the symbol of the Prince-Bishops of Speyer with consecutive numbers are displayed on these stones .
From the Hohe-Loog-level the boundary stones on the Hambacher side only bear the Hambacher coat of arms, the horseshoe, on the Loogfelsen there is a consecutive numbering, on the Diedesfeld side the local coat of arms and opposite consecutive numbering.
On the boundary stones to the Lachen-Speyerdorfer demarcation are only the characters LCHN for Lachen and a consecutive numbering. There are no boundary signs for Hambach in this area.
On the boundary stones and Loogfelsen to the Neustadt border, there is the letter N for Neustadt , consecutive numbering with numbers and consecutive letters of the alphabet and for Hambach the horseshoe.
The community forest was divided into 18 forest sections (the so-called districts or fields ). The size information was recorded in daily work and decimals . The following field sizes were given on an old map of the community forest:

With the administrative reform carried out in 1969, the independence of the Hambach community forest came to an end. Together with the forest ownership of a further eight incorporated communities, Neustadt an der Weinstrasse finally became the largest communal forest owner in Rhineland-Palatinate with around 4800 hectares .
