Thénezay is a French commune with 1,403 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Parthenay and the canton La Gâtine (until 2015: canton Thénezay ).

Thénezay is about 32 kilometers northwest of Poitiers and about 18 kilometers northeast of Parthenay . Thénezay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Assais-les-Jumeaux in the north, Craon and Doux in the north-east, Cherves in the east and south-east, La Ferrière-en-Parthenay in the south and south-west, Oroux in the west and south-west, Aubigny in the west and Pressigny in the north-west .
The former route nationale 738 (today's D738) runs through the municipality .
