Oroux is a place and a western French municipality with 95 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

Oroux is located in the historical landscape of the Gâtine poitevine at an altitude of approx. 160 m above sea level. d. M. about 19 km (driving distance) south of Airvault or about 16 km northeast of Parthenay .

economy
For centuries, the residents of the village lived on the yields of their fields and gardens as self-sufficiency . Viticulture and livestock farming were also practiced to a small extent. Agriculture continues to play a leading role in the municipality's economic life.
history
An old Roman road ran near Oroux , connecting Poitiers ( Limonum ) with Angers ( Juliomagus ). In the Middle Ages, the route was used as the Way of St. James ( Via Turonensis ) and was fortified by a castle, from which today's castle gradually developed in the centuries that followed.
Attractions
- The Château de Maurivet stands on Gallo-Roman foundations; It was built between 1490 and 1530, changed hands several times from the 15th to the 19th century and has been repeatedly restored. Today it consists of a two-storey three-wing complex with several annex buildings. It is privately owned; Parts were classified as a monument historique in 1988 .
