Karpos of Antioch
Karpos of Antioch was an ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician of the 1st or 2nd century AD.
He wrote a now lost work ( Astrologike pragmateia ), which is quoted in Proclus . There he asserts the priority of the visual evidence of constructions over the formal derivation of theorems. Since he is also called a mechanic there ( ancient Greek Μηχανικὀς ), it can be assumed that he was involved in the construction of astronomical instruments.
In addition, he dealt with the squaring of the circle . Its constructions are no longer comprehensible, but resemble the quadratrix of Hippias and the spiral of Archimedes .
