A career advisor (until 2012 military service advisor, WehrDstBer) is a contact person in the German armed forces for unused and re- employers for questions about military service and a career in the armed forces in the military and civilian sector.

Career advisors are the point of contact for initial information, advice and applications in the armed forces up to the point at which they start their service. Career counselors have no technical influence on the use. You can only advise, up to and including legal advice in the event of contradictions. Furthermore, they presented the various requirements for employment, to which certain criteria such as athleticism, mental and personal suitability correspond. While career advisors promote service in the Bundeswehr, among other things, by giving lectures, youth officers impart knowledge about the security and defense policy of Germany. Career advice is not one of their duties.

In the future, career advisors will be located in five large career centers of the Bundeswehr with assessment, three regionally subordinate career centers with assessment, 13 further career centers without assessment (also subordinate regionally). The currently 110 career advisory offices (KarrBB) and 86 location teams of the vocational advancement service (BFD) are to be combined in 113 advisory offices in the new structure of the Bundeswehr personnel recruitment organization. Some of the career advice offices are currently located in rented offices of the employment agencies . The former military service advisers were mostly in the district military replacement offices .

Use as a career advisor

A career counseling office has a different number of career counselors depending on the catchment area. These are generally one officer and two to four sergeants with portepee , but also civil career advisors. In addition to knowledge of the uses in the armed forces and everyday work, they should have pedagogical skills (“explain and inspire”) and at the same time be able to realistically assess applicants in order to avoid hopeless applications or incorrect planning.
