Karschnatz is an expression from the Luxembourgish language with two meanings, both of which are related to the harvest of field crops , specifically primarily to the grain harvest.

Month designation

Karschnatz is the expression for the eighth month of the year (general: August ) in the Luxembourgish language, which is still used today, but is no longer very common. The meaning is to be understood in the sense of “time of the grain harvest”, “harvest month”.

Folk dance

Karschnatz is also the name for a folk dance that used to be used in Luxembourg. The dance is said to have shown how the grain was sown, the grain cut and the ears of corn tied.
